Chairman World Trade Center,Mumbai.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand marks an important step in strengthening India’s economic diplomacy and strategic engagement in the IndoPacific. At a time when global trade, supply chains and geopolitical dynamics are rapidly evolving, the visit reflects India’s commitment to building resilient partnerships that promote sustainable growth, innovation and economic security.
These three countries complement India’s growth aspirations across several sectors. Indonesia offers significant opportunities in critical minerals, manufacturing, renewable energy, maritime cooperation and the digital economy. Australia remains a trusted partner in clean energy, advanced technologies, education, critical minerals and research, while New Zealand presents promising prospects in agribusiness, food processing, dairy, education, tourism and innovation.
For Indian industry, particularly MSMEs, these partnerships can create new avenues for exports, investment, technology transfer and integration into global value chains. As businesses worldwide diversify sourcing and manufacturing, India is well positioned to emerge as a preferred destination for investment, innovation and production. However, the success of such high-level engagements will depend on sustained follow-up through business delegations, trade missions, buyer-seller meets and stronger collaboration between industry, governments and research institutions.
The visit also reinforces India’s commitment to a free, open, inclusive and rules-based Indo-Pacific. Strong economic partnerships today are built not only on trade but also on trusted supply chains, technology collaboration, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.
As India progresses towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, economic diplomacy will play a decisive role in expanding exports, attracting investments and creating quality employment. The Prime Minister’s three-nation tour demonstrates India’s confidence in engaging with the world as a reliable and responsible economic partner. With effective implementation and active industry participation, these partnerships can significantly enhance India’s global competitiveness while creating new opportunities for businesses, startups and entrepreneurs.
